Nowadays Nitra and its suburban areas have about 90.000 inhabitants and it is the district seat, the cultural, agricultural, industrial and the university centre. There are two universities - Slovak Agricultural University and The University of Constantinus the Philosopher. Furthermore, Nitra is a seat of Slovak Academy of Science, of the Archeological Institute, the Agricultural Museum and the Museum of Local History (Ponitrianske múzeum). In Agrokomplex site many agricultural exhibitions and fairs take place annually. Among the highlights of the town there definitely are Nitra castle – the Bishopric Residence, the Diocese library, the gallery, The Theatre of Andrej Bagar, Synagogue, Kalvaria Hill and the downtown pedestrian zone. For the purposes of accommodation or entertainment, the visitors can find numerous hotels and guest houses and obviously some hypermarkets and shopping centers.
